John Hanks of Marysville and Kyle Simmons of Ridgefield, are honored by receiving Graham Baker Morin Memorial Scholarships

The Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association and the family of Graham Morin recently announced that John Hanks of Marysville and Kyle Simmons of Ridgefield have been named as this year's recipients of the Graham Baker Morin Memorial Scholarship Awards. Family members were so impressed by this years application pool that the selection committee awarded John as the winner of the $3,000 scholarship and Kyle as a partial recipient receiving $1,000. "Both men are outstanding representatives of the scholarship guidelines of strong academic performance in school, leadership qualities, and wrestling talent," said Craig Hanson, President of the WSWCA.

John Hanks is the valedictorian of his class at Marysville High School, obtaining a 4.0 accumulative grade point average. John leads by example and has been rewarded for his efforts by receiving most inspirational, captain, and the WIAA "Just Play Fair" awards in his senior season. He is also a great competitor, qualifying for the 4A State Tournament three times while taking home medals twice. John will be attending and competing at California Polytechnic State University of San Luis Obispo and plans on majoring in Electrical Engineering.
Kyle Simmons is the ASB President at Ridgefield High School, attaining honors in the classroom, and captaining both his football and wrestling teams. He is unbelievably involved with both his community and school. He is an exceptional wrestler qualifying for the Cadet and Junior National teams as well as being a 2-time 2A State finalist. Kyle will attend and compete at Adams State University and plans on majoring in Biology.

The scholarship was created from funds from generous friends and family starting at Graham Morin's memorial service, with help from the WSWCA, and the wrestling community of Washington. According to Vice-President of the WSWCA, Brian Smith, "We are proud to help student athletes fulfill their dreams. The scholarships truly award them for their hard work and dedication they have shown in their lives. Graham Morin has inspired many young men to greatness and in his memory this scholarship will continue to do the same."
