Inatori - match day, July 1 (day 6)
Back one page - Forward one page - Back to the Japan 2005 page
We returned to Inatori HS and the wrestlers went into classes to speak in English. The Japanese students were able to practice their English skills while our wrestlers taught them the national anthem, how to play heads-up-7up, and how to order from menus. After a McDonald's lunch, we had our second match against the Shizuoka Prefecture team.
Out of 11 matches, the Shizuoka Prefecture won 6 and WA 5. The team score was 25-25 with WA having 3 pins and Japan 2. So both teams can claim victory, but that is not what this tour is about.
Cody Bradshaw (Hanford) wrestled twice and won both of this matches by pins. Had a great day and wrestled well.
Zach Brissey (Ephrata) wrestled the #3 guy in Japan and lost 9-7, 8-3.
Keith Schlecht (Emerald Ridge) lost his match 4-1, 3-3. The coaches will take this loss as we thought he had won round 2 and was ready to win third period. But we lost round 2 on criteria - our fault.
Zach Byers (Arlington) threw on a half and pinned his opponent in about 10 seconds.
Ryan Burgess (Lakeside) lost 4-3, 9-3 to the #8 guy in the nation. Put him on his back with 5 seconds to go but we did not get the call for the pin.
Rob Nagel (Arlington) lost by pin.
Matt Johnson (Auburn) lost 6-0, 6-0.
Jon Millard (Lakeside) dominated his opponent, 9-2, 7-0.
Evan White (Southridge) won 2-0, 4-2.
Karlson Miller (Oak Harbor) dominated round 1 by a score of 4-0. Was caught in a head-n-arm and was pinned in round 2.
Bradshaw pinned his second opponent.
After the match we returned to the home of our host families.
