Othello High School 1973-1994

Wayne Schutte attended Othello High School and graduated in 1968 where he was coached by Von Buck, Sam Martin and Bill Bennett. He attended Central Washington University and was coached by Hall of Famer Eric Beardsley (class of 1984). At CWU Wayne was the 1969 Evergreen Conference Champion and in 1972 was the runner-up.

Prior to his retirement from wrestling coaching in 1995, he spent 21 years at Othello High School as Head Coach. His teams accumulated over 250 wins. He was selected as League Coach of the Year six times, Regional Coach of the Year four times and Washington State Coach of the Year twice. His teams have placed in the top ten at state twelve times, including a second on five occasions and third and fourth once each. He has coached 24 state finalists including 15 champions and a total of 58 place winners. Wayne was selected as the 1994 Othello High School Teacher of the Year.
