David Mitchell
Inducted in 2010

Tonasket High School 1978 – present

David Mitchell has been the Head Wrestling Coach at Tonasket High School for 32 seasons. He was
selected the State Coach of the Year 1998 and 2001, and the Region Coach of the Year 1995,1998 and 2001. He is a master technician and motivator, which are reflected by the 25 state champions and 55 state place winners that have worn the blue and gold of Tonasket High School. His teams have placed in the top ten at state a total of 13 times, two second-place finishes, 3rd place three times, and 4th place once.

Mitchell is considered Mr. Wrestling in Tonasket; he started and is still active as a coach of the middle school program, as well as 28 years in Kid Wrestling and freestyle club wrestling. He has coached ten years with Washington State Cadet and Junior National team. Additionally, he has served as an assistant football coach in both the high school and middle school. Mitchell coched a cultural exchange team to U.S.S.R in 1986.

He began his career in wrestling at Issaquah High School and qualified for the state tournament in 1970, placed 2nd in 1971, and won the state title in 1972. He was a member of the 1971 Washington State Cultural exchange team to Japan, and in 1972 selected as High School All-American First team by Scholastic Wrestling News (now USA Wrestling).

Mitchell is part of a long time wrestling family in the state of Washington. He and four brothers wrestled at Issaquah High; Chris, Shawn, Dean and Ryan. Chris and Dean each were State Champions. His sons were all State Champions; Martin (four times), Patrick (once) and Kevin (twice). The Mitchell family has ten Washington State wrestling championship
gold medals.
