Linsenmayer began his coaching career in 1960 at the Air Force Academy
High School, winning league and district tiles in five years. After
earning his masters degree in science he moved to Snohomish High
School where Linsenmayer was an assistant coach until 1969, when
he moved to Oak Harbor High School as the head wrestling coach.
Linsenmayer
coached at Oak Harbor until his retirement in 1998, compiling a
dual meet record of 248 wins, 126 losses and 5 ties for a winning
percentage of over 70%. His teams won eight league, seven district
and two regional titles, and finished in the top ten at state several
times. He coached six state champions and forty state place winners,
and had a state competitor at every state tournament for 37 years.
Linsenmayer received the Washington Coach of the Year Award in 1981
and was awarded the Paul Reiman/Bo Campbell/Ken Driskell Award in
1999.
Coach Linsenmayer
hosted several Japanese Cultural Exchange teams as well as hosting
the Northwest Qualifying Freestyle Tournament for many years. In
college he was coached by National Hall of Fame member Art Griffith
at Okalahoma State University.
Rich and his
wife Myrna live in Oak Harbor. They have four children, Kurt, Kristi,
Mark and Erik and have three grandchildren.
