Ron Hudiburg was an Oklahoma state champion in 1964 at 148 pounds along with third and fourth place finishes, and wrestled at Oklahoma State University under Myron Roderick where he earned a degree in 1970. After three years coaching in OK, Hudiburg headed to Port Angeles where he was the head coach for eight years and compiled a 62-24-1 record. After serving as an assistant at Decatur for a year, Ron landed at South Kitsap High School where he would remain as the head wrestling coach for twenty years.
Ron’s SK teams dominated the Narrows League, winning 14 league titles and fifteen league tournaments. His record with the wolves was 203-34-2 (85%) including an incredible run of 113 league wins in a row from 1992-2004. His overall record was 265-58-3 and his teams won four regional titles. The SK team finished in the top ten at state five times including a runner-up finish in 1995. Ron coached 63 state placers with five state champions. Seven of his wrestlers won a total of eleven Academic All-State Awards. In 2004 he was named the WSWCA 4A Wrestling Coach of the Year.
Ron taught science for 33 years and is now retired. With his wife JoAnne, they have two daughters, Missy and Tara, and a son Clayton who is a science teacher and head wrestling coach at Walla Walla High School.
