| Gordon
Evans was born in Winona, WA in 1923 and attended Onarya Military
School in Onarya, Illinois graduating in 1942. After high school
Gordon served in the Army during World War II. After returning from
the war, Gordon attended Washington State University where he played
football and wrestled at 190 pounds for William Tomaras, Hall of
Fame Member. He placed third in the Olympic trials in 1948.
Gordon's first
teaching job was in Anatone, Washington in 1964. He and his family
moved to Concrete High School in 1965 where he would remain until
1988. Gordon volunteered as a coach at Marysville, Burlington, Cheney,
and Colfax. He started the Concrete Cobra Freestyle Team and ran
it for many years.
Gordon started
the first "A" program in Nortwest Washington at Concrete
in 1965. Records could not be found to elaborate on Gordon's success
as a coach. He is remembered as an unselfish person who gave of
himself, both personally and financially to anyone who was in need.
He was described as "by far the most dedicated to the sport"
of wrestling.
Gordon passed
away in December of 1994 at 71 years of age. He and his wife Rita
have three children, Anker, Corrilyn and Gordon, Jr. Fishing and
playing cards were hobbies of Gordon's.
