| John
was born in Spokane in 1951. He attended West Valley High in Spokane
and graduated in 1969, participating in the state tournament that
year. Durheim wrestled for Hall of Fame Member (class of 2002) Charlie
Miller. He graduated from Eastern Washington University in 1978.
John then began teaching at Cashmere High School and served for
twelve years in the Washington Air National Guard.
Durheim served
as an assistant coach for eight years from 1978-1986 and was the
head coach at Cashmere from 1986-1996. In his ten years as head
coach his teams compiled a 117-3-0 dual meet record and won or shared
10 league championships. His teams captured 10 District Championships,
6 Regional Titles and 5 State Titles! He has coached 75 state participants,
45 state placers and 10 wrestlers earned a total of 14 State Titles.
He was named Assistant Coach of the Year in 1985, Region IV Coach
of the Year and Caribou Trail Coach of the Year and Washington State
Class A/B "Jim Adamson" Coach of the Year in 1989. He
was honored as Washington State Coach of the Year in 1996.
John has been
a head Cross Country Coach and an Assistant in Track & Field.
He is presently a mathematics teacher at Cashmere High and enjoys
hiking.
