Doug
was a teacher and coach in the Lake Washington School District for
29 years. His career dual meet wins is 302 and his record at Lake
Washington High School was 109-17-3. His teams were Kingco Champions
three times and finished in the top 3 nine out of ten years. His 1992
team was the State AAA Academic Champions and he had 43 State Competitors
while at LWHS. He was awarded WSWCA "AAA" Coach of the Year
in 1989 as well as Kingco and Regional Coach of the Year in both 1988
and '89.
Doug was a founding member of the Pacific Northwest Officials Association
and was presented that organizations Darrel Whitmore Sportsmanship
Award in 1992. He also acted as Commissioner for the PNWOA from 1969
to 1972.
In 1992 Coach Chapple retired from coaching the Lake Washington team
and the entire community named the Lake Washington H.S. Gymnasium
the D.A. Chapple Gymnasium in honor of Doug's contribution to the
school and district.
