Mike Carr wrestled for Davis High School in Yakima and continued his wrestling career at Whitworth College where he earned All-American status in 1969, placing second in the nation. Carr was 7th at the Olympic Trials in 1972.
After completing his college career he began teaching and coaching at Blaine HS, helping to start the program. In 1973 Carr moved to Medical Lake HS as a teacher and coach. He continues to teach history there. His wrestling teams compiled a record of 252-130-7 in dual meets, ten league championships, ten district championships, four Regional titles and eight top-ten finishes at state. His 1992 team captured the state title, the only title for the school in all sports. He coached 67 state placers and six champions.
Carr spent over twenty years as a football official, and several years as a youth baseball coach. In the Medical Lake community he has been the past president of the Founders Day and the Medical Lake Float Association, and was a member of the Kiwanis Club. Mike and Helen have been married since 1967 and have three children.
Carr made a positive influence on many of his wrestlers, teaching them the love of the sport, which is shown by several of his former wrestlers becoming head coaches today. He made Medical Lake a perennial power with 21 winning seasons.
Nominated and inducted by Sam Peterson, Medical Lake HS.
