Battle Ground HS 1979-present

Dave Carlile has been a Battle Ground Tiger his entire life. He grew up there and wrestled for BGHS, graduating in 1975. As a wrestler he was 29-1 in league, three-time Clark County champion, three-time district champion, two-time regional champion and participated at state three times.

Following graduation from WSU, Carlile returned in 1979 where he has coached the Tigers for the past 29 seasons. Twenty-three of those years have been as the head coach, during which time his record stands at 186-41-3 and includes the 4A State Championship in 2006.His teams have finished in the top 10 at state five times and he has coached 47 state placers, including nine state champions. Carlile has coached seven high school All-Americans – including two National Champions – and was selected as the 1994 Regional Coach of the Year.

Over the past 44 years there has been a Carlile involved in the BGHS wrestling program, either as a wrestler, coach or manager. Carlile has taught at Battle Ground for 29 years. He currently coaches the Cross Country team, and has spent many seasons coaching powerlifting and football.

Carlile has dedicated his career to inspiring young people to push the limit, to achieve their goals in life, as well as on the wrestling mat. He has been an integral part of many freestyle and Greco tournaments including the Tom Shaw Memorial Jr. National Qualifier and the Olympic Team Trials Qualifier. In 2006 Carlile was awarded the Educator of the Year for BGHS.

Dave and his wife Pam have two daughters; Jessica and Janel. Both were 4-year wrestling managers.
