| Larry
Brown attended Curtis High School and graduated in 1964 and was
coached by Raymond Payne. He was coached in college by Eric Beardsley
and graduated from Central Washington in 1968. He was an All-American
and 3rd place finisher at the NAIA National Wrestling Tournament.
Larry began his coaching career at Montesano High School where he
coached for 5 seasons. He then moved to Fife High School where he
remained for 15 years.
After twenty
five years of coaching, Larry retired in 1995 with a career record
of 248-114-8. Larry was named Pierce County League Coach of the
Year in 1986, 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995. He received Puget Sound
Coach of the Year honors in 1993 and Region III Coach of the Year
in 1995.
He has coached
many league and regional champions and a total of 34 state place
winners including 9 champions. Coach Brown's teams have placed in
the top ten at state five times including a sixth, two fourths and
a third place in 1995. He served as coach/trainer for the 1985 cultural
exchange to New Zealand. He is recognized as an outstanding trainer
and developed a cadre of student trainers at Fife which has been
recognized as one of the finest programs in the state.
