Wilson High School

Coach Bird compiled an outstanding record as a wrestling coach during his coaching career at both Lincoln High School and Wilson High School, both in Tacoma, Washington. At the first State Tournament in 1953, Harry's Lincoln team was runner-up to Sedro Woolley, but came back in 1954 to take the title with four individual state champions. They repeated with the team title again in 1955 collecting four individual titles. During his tenure at Lincoln and Wilson, Harry produced a total of sixteen individual state champions.

Harry Bird was inducted into the WSWCA Hall of Fame posthumously by Mr. Dick Pruett, a former wrestler and now a Hall of Fame member from Kent-Meridian High School. Harry's widow, Evelyn Bird accepted the honor on his behalf.
