| Joe
Babbitt has been the man behind the scenes ever since Bill Tomaras
promoted the first state tournament in Pullman. Pullman may have
been home to Babbitt, but come mid-February, home was wherever the
state tournament was held. Joe tracked matches at the head table
and feeds information to the public address announcer.
Babbitt was a leader in developing coaching and officiating associations
in eastern Washington. He has been honored by the Washington State
Wrestling Coaches Award as the first recipient of the "Contributors
Award" and by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association
for his "Service to Youth."
Joe Babbitt
is one of two men to have received three honors from the WSWCA.
Along with his induction into the Hall of Fame, Joe received the
inaugural Contributors Award in 1985 and the Tomaras Award in 1996.
In 1998, the
WSWCA Hall of Fame honored Joe by renaming the Contributors Award
after him.
