Ed Amick has
spent 37 years as the head coach at North Mason High School, compiling
a record of 382 wins against 163 losses and 4 ties for a winning
percentage of 70%. He has had a state participant at every tournament
for 33 years in a row, including 4 state champions and 42 state
placers. Five of Amick's teams won Regional titles.
Ed's emphasis
has been on building character in young men and making wrestling
a positive influence in their lives. He places academics as a high
priority for his wrestlers and two of his teams won Academic State
Titles, one in 1994 at the "A" level and another at "AA"
in 1995.
Amick was awarded
the Jim Adamson State Coaching Award in 1981 for the "A"
level and was selected as the Washington State Coach of the Year
in 2001. He started the programs at all levels in North Mason and
coached the cultural exchange team to China in 1986.
His efforts
at the state level include many years as a regional representative,
where he has been a force behind many of the improvements to wrestling
in Washington State. Amick was a charter member of Hank Rybus' wrestling
committee to set up the regional wrestling format. He also served
as the state poll coordinator from 1990-1994.
Ed and Erlene
have five children, Crystal, Eddie, Jeff, Mike and Joey. Ed still
resides near North Mason High School where he retired from after
teaching for 30 years. Amick served for 22 years, active and reverve,
in the United States Coast Guard and currently owns Amick Rhododendron.
Amick was nominated
by and will be inducted by Hall of Fame Member Rolland Holterman. |
